It is with a good deal of excitement and some trepidation that we launch the FBKB today. We have been working on this project for close to 3 years now, and today we release it to the fire community. We know there will be some bugs and we hope that you will be patient with the software. If things don't work please let us know and we will get it fixed. With your help, FBKB will realize its full potential.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on the team for making this idea into a reality. From a half baked idea that Mike Wotton and I fleshed out, to Jim Caputo's vision of what the software could look like, and Jen Brown's web site design user manual and installation guide; it has been a long journey that we hope will continue for some time.
This launch day is very much a turning point for the project, and we are eager to learn several things:
Some easy questions, some not so easy. We have dreamed big of a global FBKB with fire data from across the planet, multiple fire danger rating systems embedded , multiple languages and more, and today we will start to see if this larger dream is a possibility. This first small step in a beta launch is an exciting time indeed.
